Notes

  • Note*: Parents:
John George Hain (b. 8 Feb 1716 NY; son of George & Veronica Hain) and Magdalena Elizabeth (Mohn?)2,1
  • Note: Two wives - per book Hain Family:

" In 1773 he [George Hain] married Mary ------. She died after nine years, leaving one child: Barbara Hain, born 1775, baptized March 26, 1775, sponsor, Barbara Adams. He died Dec. 31, 1803, buried Hain's Church.
" On November 22, 1784, George was married to Mary Magdalena Ruth, daughter of Christian and Barbara (nee Epler Heister) Ruth. She was born January 3, 1764, die May 14, 1845, buried at Hain's Church. Peter Hain was administrator of her estate."2
  • Note: Two wives - per Akerboom book:

Ruth family researchers Jack Akerboom and Anna Ruth Salzman, writing about Mary Magdalena Ruth (1764-1784, daughter of Johann Christian Ruth (1728-1793) and his wife Maria Barbara Epler (1732-1809) who married George Hain (1746-1803), state:

"It is believed that George [Hain] was previously married 1773 for 9 years to Maria 'Mary' Magdalena Ruth born () in () and died () in Children: Barbara born 1775, baptized 26 Mar 1775 and died () in It is also believed that Maria was the second youngest daughter of Peter Ruth and his second wife Catharine Mayer, that is Magdalena or Maria Magdalena. Credence is given to this supposition as their only child Barbara was sponsored by Barbara Addams who should have been her mother's sister."1
  • Note: Peter Ruth's probate:
Johann Peter Ruth (1731-1784) was a half-brother of Maria Magdalena Ruth (1751-).

In Peter Ruth's probate file is a planned distribution dated 8 Feb 1786 which names all the siblings and half siblings, including niece "Barbara Hahn only heir of Magdalena Hahn who was a sister of the said deceased".4
  • Note: Two wives - daughter's will:

The will of George's daughter Barbara lists a property "my share and part of the house and lot of ground situated in the village of Sinking Springs Berks County Pennsylvania adjoining property of Henry Mull widow Miller Reuben mill and Dauphin Turnpike".

The Ruths were founders of Sinking Spring, so possibly Barbara's share was inherited from a mother in the Ruth family. (This compiler did not attempt to prove this suggestion by untangling the numerous land transactions between Ruths, Hains and Germands.)5
  • Note: Two wives - this database:

In this database the first wife of George Hain is represented as Maria Magdalena Ruth daughter of Johann Peter Ruth (1704-1771) and his second wife Catharine Mayer.

This identity is not well proven, but is supported by circumstantial evidence, as displayed above.
