• The transcriber writes:

  • "I attach my transcriptions in the incomplete state they happen to be in, in case someone wants to start reading right now. They are bound to contain many typing errors; any corrections are welcome. Note however that I want to reproduce the original spelling, punctuation, etc. whenever possible, including manifest errors unless corrected by the writer himself. If explanations are necessary or useful, I add them at the end of the respective letter in braces ("{}").

    Also, I plan to add some genealogy about those Prendergasts, Ensors, Irwins etc. mentioned in the letters. Any contribution is welcome.

    The text is yours to share with anybody, but please mention that it is just work-in-progress.

• There are no letters between those of June 6, 1875 and April 30, 1876. The letters themselves do not explain the gap. Son Jeffrey was born 31 August 1875 in Wisconsin, and FEP's mother Caroline Ensor Prendergast died 'a few months before' (exact date not found).

  Volume: Letters from Mary A. Prendergast 1903-1904

• Mary A. Prendergast with four of her children, Lucretia, Ruth, Arthur and Joe (ages 23 - 15), and their cousin Abbie, lived in Dresden Germany from fall 1903 through summer 1904. She wrote regularly to her brothers Richard and Curtis Childs in Hennicker N.H., and a few of the letters are by the children. (157 pages)

  Volume: The Prisoner of War : Journal of a Captivity in France during the Revolutionary War of 1794 and 1795 by Jeffrey Prendergast

The journal author Jeffrey Prendergast Esq. later in life became General Sir Jeffrey Prendergast (1769-1856). After the captivity he spent most of his life in India, and for many years was the Military Auditor-General at Madras. He was the brother of Francis Ensor Prendergast's paternal grandfather Francis (1757-1846).
