Notes
- Name Variation: Hetty Heckman1
- Note*: Census:
1850 US Census, Reading, Berks, Co. Penn.
Hester Moore, 58
Mary Moore, 27
Elizabeth Moore, 20
Elizabeth was Hester's youngest daughter; Mary's identity is unknown.10 - Note: City Directory Reading, 1856:
"Moore, Mrs. Esther, 3d bel Ches ws" 11 - Note: Wells family bible:
"Esther Heckman MOORE, relict of Thomas MOORE, Departed this life at Reading July 21st 1856 aged 67 years--grandmother"12 - Note: Parentage:
It is fairly certain, but not completely proven, that the George Heckman who died in 1805 was the father of Esther. See the notes under George Heckman regarding the evidence for this assertion. - Note: Will of Frances Moore:
Frances Moore (1777-1858), daughter of James Moore of Convoy, in her 1848 will, made the following bequest:
"to my cousin Hetty Moore of Reading the sum of 200 dollars and to her son James Moore the sum of 300 dollars...
to my cousin Hetty Moore or heirs all the remainder of my furniture I may die possessed of"
Hetty died before the distribution, and so the cash went to her children, who are listed in the 'Legacies Paid' section of the Account.
Hetty and Frances' were not cousins in the modern sense of the word. The executor, Dr. William Moore son of Hetty, used relationship terms very accurately in the Account, and he dropped the 'cousin' for this entry. Frances may have felt a familial affection for Hetty, as Hetty's son Dr. William Moore had married Mary Ann Doll who was raised by Frances' brother Wm. Moore of Lebanon and his wife Mary Ann Doll's aunt Elizabeth.13 - Note: Will of Ann Gray:
Hetty is also named in the 1841 will of Ann Gray, half-sister of the above Frances Moore. She made a bequest to Hester Moore wife of Thos. Moore $100.14
