- Note*: Samuel Moore in his will written 19 May 1795, after bequests to his wife and son, bequests the remainder of his estate to daughter Lydia, and appoints his wife and the executors, brother William Moore and cousin David Moore, guardians of the personal estate of daughter Lydia and son Samuel.1
- Note: An article, written in 1907, about the Female Benevolent Society of Lancaster included biographical sketches of the founding members, including Lydia Reynolds and her mother Jane Moore.
"Lydia Reynolds was born January 24, 1794, and died August 5, 1843. She was the daughter of Captain Samuel Moore and Jane Fulton, his wife. She was married June 17, 1813 to John Reynolds, who was born March 30, 1787, and died in Baltimore, May 11, 1853. Lydia Reynolds was the mother of thirteen children, four of whom died in infancy. The remainder were as follows [surname added]:
1-Samuel Moore Reynolds, born April 17, 1814; died May 29, 1888; married Elizabeth ----, who died january 12, 1890;
2-William Reynolds, born December 18, 1815; died November 5, 1879; he married Rebecca Krug, who died April 15, 1885;
3- Lydia Moore Reynolds, born July 27, 1818; died at Fort Wayne, Ind. December 28, 1896; she married nathan Evans, who was born at Limerick, Pa., December 23, 1818, and died at Fort Wayne, Ind., October 16, 1893;
4-John Fulton Reynolds, born September 21, 1820; he was Colonel of the Fifth Infantry, and Major General of Volunteers in the United States Army; he was killed at Gettysburg, July 1, 1863;
5-James Lefevre Reynolds, born March 8, 1822; died April 5, 1880; was a prominent lawyer of lancaster;
6-Jane Reynolds, born February 13, 1824, died December 10, 1901; married Geo. Gildersleeve, of Baltimore, who was born in Delaware, may 24, 1822, and died in Baltimore, December 11, 1900;
7-Kate Reynolds, born December 11, 1825; died February 10, 1905; married Henry D. Landis, of Germantown, who was born October 18, 1824; died February 18, 1895;

John Reynolds, the husband of Lydia Reynolds, was at one time manager of the Cornwall furnace and guardian of the Coleman heirs. He was editor and proprietor of the Lancaster Journal from 1820 to 1834. The Reynolds home was on North Duke street, in the house now occupied by the widow of the late Dr. John Aug. Ehler.
