Notes

  • Note*: The name Adam Reigart:

    The name Adam Reigart is included in this database because George Michael Graff's 1768 will describes an Adam Reigart as brother-in-law, and the relationship may appear complicated.

    The name recurs: An Adam Reigart was named as an executor in numerous Graff wills including those of George Michael Graff 1768, Elizabeth Graff 1805, Catharine Graff 1813, Andrew Graff 1816. Sebastian Graff and an Adam Reigart were members of the Committee of Observation for Lancaster County in 1775. Christopher Crawford and an Adam Reigart owned adjoining properties in Lancaster, and they worked together on the formation of Franklin College, accepting donations in 1777, and as trustees in 1787.

    These references are to two people, father and son:
    Adam Reigart (1739-1813)
    Adam Reigart (1765-1844)
    Both resided in Lancaster, and both died testate. Each was prominent in their own right.
  • Note: Brothers-in-law:

    Emanuel Carpenter and his wife Catherine of Earl Township, Lancaster county had among other children daughters Elizabeth and Catharine. In German their surname was Zimmerman. Elizabeth Zimmerman married George Michael Graff, and Catharine Zimmerman married Adam Reigart, making Graff and Reigart brothers-in-law.1
  • Note: Marriages:

    Catharine Zimmerman's first marriage, Slaymaker book:

    "Adam Reigart, married Catharine Yeiser, nee Carpenter, widow of Frederick Yeiser. After her death Adam Reigart married Susana Franks."

    [This compiler did not attempt to explain 'Franks'. Frederick Christian Yeiser is a DAR Patriot.]

    Adam Reigart senior's first marriage; Simpson book:

    "Reigart Adam Catharine Yieser 7 Apr 1763"

    Adam Reigart senior's second marriage. The Lancaster Moravian Church records record the 1794 marriage of Adam Reigart widower and Susanna Metzger widow. As translated and abstracted:

    "Jan. 7, 1794
    Joh. Adam Reichart Esq. (wid)
    b. Nov. 22 1739;
    2d. son of Ulrich and Anna Maria Reichert;

    and
    Susanna Metzger (wid)
    dau. of Philip Rudisile and Susanna Bayer;
