Notes

  • Note*: Anna Catharina's husband died in 1726. By 1729 she had no children left in her village to support her. Two sons were in America. One son resided across the Rhine. Two daughters had been married for ten years and lived in nearby villages, another daughter lived further away. About that time she moved into the house of her hired man, to whom she had loaned money, as well as loans to her son. During the French occupation, 1733 - 1736, she was out of communication with her sons in America. She died in 1743, testate, with a "very modest legacy" divided among her daughters, and she forgave the debts of her son and of her handy man.4
