  • Note: 1681 July 25. Memorandum of Indenture of Service. Sarah Curtis, daughter of Thomas Curtis, binds herself as servant to Benjamin Scott, bound for New West Jersey, for four years beginning upon arrival at West Jersey in consideration of 40 acres etc. Note that 3 days earlier Sarah's sister Elizabeth had bound herself as a servant to Elias Farr also bound for West Jersey. (NJA 21:414, WJD B:111) See deed 1686 Oct 10.

    1686 Oct 10. Deed. Peter Harvey and his wife Sarah to Thomas Curtis 40 acres in 2nd 10th, part of land belonging to Benjamin Scott deceased in right of Sarah Harvey in consideration of service to Benjamin Scott per indenture recorded in book B page 111. (NJA 21:425, WJD B:215)1,2
  • Note*: Benjamin Scott's name appears in the records of the Burlington Court in 1682 and 1683 in various roles: justice, plaintiff, defendant, and overseer for highways. In September 1682 a jury found against him, in his case against his servant Daniel Furley. Among those giving evidence was Sarah Curtice.3
