Notes

  • Note*: Bucks co. tax assessment: 7th month 1693 Edward Lucas of Falls Township, value of estate real & personal £674
  • Note: "3 Edward Lucas, Jacob Janney, Thomas Janney, Joseph Milnor, Edmand Louet and Wm. Darke make acknowledgement 6th of 1st month 1698, for assenting to casting lots to decide a verdict of the jury on which they served."
[Earliest mention found in minutes was 11th mo 1698.]5
  • Note: Falls Monthly Meeting Minutes 5th of 4th mo 1700: "Edward Lucas laid his intention of marriage with Bridget Scot of Notingham in West Jersey...".6
  • Note: Marriage certificate abstract: Edward Lucas of co. of Bucks in province of Penn., yeoman, & Bridget Scott of province of N.N., spinster, at house of Thomas Lambert in West Jersey, 3rd day 7th mo 1700. First five witnesses: Elizabeth Lucas, Giles Lucas, Robert Lucas, John Scott, Martin Scott. 53 witnesses total, a very large number for that era; no other Lucas or Scott.2
  • Note: Per his death notice Edward was appointed an elder in the Falls MM in 1726, and continued till his death in 1740.3

(FHL #172,899. Bucks Co, Penn. wills, vol. 2, p. 5-6. Abstracted by compiler.)8
  • Note: This list of Edward Lucas' children includes the eight found in Falls Monthly Meeting birth records, plus Edward who is identified in two wills.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania will abstract (as found on RootsWeb) for Edward Lucas, 1737/1740, erroneously lists a son Samuel, not supported by examination of the recorded will.

Betty Porter Hall's book adds Samuel and another Mary; and it flips the birth dates of Mercy and Mary.
