Notes
- Note*: John Pearson wrote a family genealogy in 1812. A full quote of the portion concerning the Pearson's is contained in this database under Benjamin Pearson senior. Regarding his first cousin William Pearson, he wrote:
"William married Ann Fairman, and left two sons and two daughters-William, Thomas, Susanna and Ann. The son William married Deborah Foulke and left a daughter. Thomas it is said is deceased. He lived in Jersey, but whether married or not, I do not know. Susanna [sic] married Robert Aitken and they have children."5 - Note: A Wm. Pearson was a member of the Darby Monthly Meeting 2nd month 1751, when he and other members signed a letter to the Chester meeting regarding a George Dibble.6
- Note: In 1757 William Pearson apparently initiated membership application to the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, by an unorthodox process:
"At a monthly meeting held at Philadelphia 25 2m of 1757 [above the 25 appears to be "11d"]
William Pearson produced a Letter directed to this Meeting Signed by a Number of Friends residing at Darby dated 20th 1 mo last recommending him as a Person who was brought up amongst them, under the Care of his Grandfather till placed as Apprentice, which was also amongst them, that he pretty dilligently attended their Meetings & was in Life and Conversation honest & temparate", by the circumstances of which Recommendation it appears to us, he is entitled to a Certificate from their Monthly Meeting. Jeremiah Clsrith[?], Owen Jones, Anthony Benezett & William Callender are together appointed to attend the Monthly Meeting of Darby with the said letter & to inform them of the Sense & judgement of this Meeting thereupon, also that as the Practice of sending Certificates of this Nature may be attended with bad consequences & is contrary to the advice of the Yearly meeting to desire that they would be careful to discourage the Same.
Copy from the Minutes of aforesaid Meeting, James Pemberton, Clerk"7 - Note: 2-25-1777 William Pearson dismissed for marriage out of unity by Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for the Northern District.8
- Note: "A month later [May 1757], Ann Pearson produced a letter condemning her breech of discipline by marrying in Christ Church instead of the Society of Friends. She was reinstated.9
