Notes
- Note*: "1756, Jan. 30. Mickle, Mary, of Evesham Township, Burlington, Co., widow; will of. Children - Ruth, Hannah, Rachel and Prudence. Grandchildren - Joshua and Rachel Wood; Jarvis, Jacob and Hannah Hews; Mary, John and Jonah Small; Jarvis Thomas. Daughter, Hanna, has son Jarvis. Son-in-law, John Small mentioned. Real and personal estate. Executor - son-in-law, John Stokes....Proved March 9, 1756.
"1756, Feb. 27. Inventory..."4 - Note: This compiler contends that Mary (Allen) Stockdale married John Mickle the father, not John the son as recorded by Clement, for the following reasons:
1) John the father's will names wife Mary. No other marriage can be found.
2) At the time of the marriage in 1741, John the son was not of age, per his father's will written in 1741 proved in 1744.
3) Mary Mickle died 1756 with a will before John the son in 1765. It was common for a widow to have a will, but uncommon for a woman with a living husband.
4) Mary Mickle in her 1756 will names all her known daughters and their children, but does not name a daughter Elizabeth, as did John the son in his 1765 will. Elizabeth, not 18 in her fathers 1765 will, would have been born after approx. 1747, and so had John the son and Mary Stockdale been married, this Elizabeth would have been Mary's daughter, and more likely to be mentioned in Mary's will than her grandchildren."5
