Notes

  • Note*: Origin
Catharine (----) (Reigle) Heckman's origins and maiden name are unknown. Likewise it is unknown what became of her after the death of her second husband. The conclusions about her life presented here are based upon single unsupported pieces of evidence and some plausible but unsupported assumptions.

About 1778 Catharine married her first husband, Jacob Reigel or Riehel, a laborer of Cumru Township which is just west of Reading. They had three known children, baptized in the reformed church in Exeter Township just east of Reading. He died in 1785 and about a year later she remarried, to George Heckman of Reading. They had four known children by 1798, baptized in the same church. George died in 1805. Three daughters are known to have lived to adulthood, and two of their marriages are known.
  • Note: In 1786 widow Catharina Riegel administered the estate of Jacob Riegel.2
  • Note: On 7 Nov 1799 Georg Heckmann and wife Catharina sponsored the baptism of Samuel Bleiler, son of Philip Bleiler.3
  • Note: The 1804 will of George Heckman names his wife Catharine, as well as their four children and a step-daughter.

Catharine Heckman is appointed executrix and administers the will from 1805 through 1807.1
  • Note: The births of the Heckman children, and George's death, and the marriage of one of her daughters are all recorded at the reformed church nearest to Reading at the time, Schwarzwald in Exeter Township.4
