  • Note: Death of Samuel Moore.
Samuel Moore, one of the early dry goods merchants of Philadelphia, died Sunday at his home, No. 252 North Nineteenth street. Mr. Moore was born in Reading April 9, 1817. He came to Philadelphia when about 25 years old, and engaged himself in the dry goods house of Eckel, Spangler & Co. Mr. Moore eventually became a partner in the firm of Raiguel, Moore & Co., which succeeded the old firm of Eckel, Spangler & Co. During the war Mr. Moore was active in the movement to equip troops, particularly the old Corn Exchange Regiment, and was a Unionist of the pronounced type. During this period he retired from the dry goods business and joined his brother, John Moore, in the tobacco business, at No. 107 North Water street. John retired about eight years ago, and the business has been kept up since by Mr. Moore and his son, Henry C. Moore. Mr. Moore leaves a wife and six children. If he had survived until the 27th of this month he would have reached the forty-seventh anniversary of his wedding.
