Notes

  • Note*: Some sources list one additional child of Frederick and Rachel Hummel, namely Elizabeth Hummel, born 23 Sept 1807, died 24 Mar 1836, buried with other Hummels in Zion Evangelical Lutheran churchyard. This would have her born four years after her father's death. More likely she is the child of Frederick and Rachel Hummel's son Frederick Hummel and his wife Susanna Hamaker.6,7,8
  • Note: Land: In his will Frederick Hummel senior bequeathed the unsold town lands of Hummelstown to his sons Frederick and David in common, with the value to be shared among the heirs. On 14 Oct 1789 Frederick and David made an agreement to divide up the lots. (per Dauph. 1N:703). On 7 May 1790 heirs received their share of the appraisement of the real estate willed to David Hummel (Dauph. 1M:163).

In addition to the Frederick Town lots obtained from his father's will, Frederick purchased lots #30 and #31 in 1782 (Dauph. 1L:40), and lots #45 & #46 in 1788 ( Dauph. 1K:517), and lot #16 in 1793 (Dauph. 1L:42). He also purchased in Derry Twp. 113 acres in 1790 (Dauph. 1L:39) and 127 acres in 1799 (per Dauph. 1L:314).

Dauphin county deeds do not record any sales prior to 1790. Then in 1790 Frederick and his brother David together sell lot #32 (Dauph. 1D:286). Then Frederick and Rachel sell lots #42 in 1790, #16 in 1793, and #45, #46 & #200 in 1794 (Dauph. 1I:80, 1L:42, 1K:519 & 1K:521 respectively). They also sold in 1793 to a neighbor a 13 acre corner of the 113 purchased in 1790 (Dauph. 1N:591). Likewise in 1800 28 acres of the 127 acres purchased in 1799 (Dauph. 1L:314).9
