  • Note: "Obituary. Mr. George J. Repplier, one of the oldest and most prominent Philadelphia dealers in coal, died at his residence, No. 1922 W. Rittenhouse Square, yesterday morning. For more than thirty years Mr. Repplier was engaged in the coal trade, first as a miner and shipper, and latterly as a wholesale and retail dealer. Deceased was well known in this city, and was sincerely respected for his high integrity."6
  • Note: In February through May 1873 James D Dougherty administrator of the estate of George S. Repplier petitioned the Orphans' Court of Berks county for permission to sell a mortgaged property in Reading; permission was granted and the property sold to Emma Hawman for $1500 and her payment of the $8500 mortgage to Charles A. Repplier, recorded Berks Co. 1873 Deed Bk. 110, p. 582. Repplier had died 26 November 1872 intestate in Philadelphia county. A copy of the inventory of his personal estate listed assets of $49,017.41 (the largest item being the lease & property of Locust Run Colliery $24,500), and debts of $116,304.50 (the largest two being Payrolls & rents of Collieries $15,359.71, and debt to John G. Repplier $17,000). Three properties are also listed in the petitions:

    No. 1 Land and buildings on Oak Lane in 22nd ward in Philadelphia formerly called Bristol Township containing 30 acres and 7 perches granted to Repplier 25 May 1865 (Book illegible, No 106, p. 7).

    No. 2 House and lot on South Fifth St between Chestnut and Spruce, Reading, lot number 26, granted to Repplier 2 July 1864 by Mary Kepple by indenture recorded Berks County Vol 77 page 700.

    No. 3 Dwelling and lot on Schuylkill Ave. in Borough of Pottsville in county of Schuylkill, lot no. 46 in Potts addition to Pottsville granted to Repplier 18 January 1867 by James R Shearer recorded Schuylkill County Deed Bk 95 page 508.
