Obituary in the North American, 2 April 1860:
    "Jacob B Lancaster,
The death of this well known merchant, which occurred at his residence, No. 1426 West Arch street, on Friday last, was not altogether unexpected. He had been ill for some time past, confined to his bed, and gradually sinking. He will be missed from many public bodies, where he was well known. At the Corn Exchange, of which he was an active member, and in the various other relations of an enterprising merchant, there could be found few men of more sterling integrity and genuine worth. Mr. Lancaster had all his life been identified with the Opposition to the democratic party. He had been several times a member of the City Council, and was elected to represent the First Congressional District in the Whig National Convention of 1852, where he voted throughout for the nomination of General Scott."5
