  • Note: William and Elizabeth (Tyson) Lucken were ancestors of President Theodore Roosevelt, and of his niece Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, through their daughter Elizabeth (Lukens) Potts.3
  • Note*: "William Lukens, son of Jan Lucken and Mary (Tyson) Lucken, was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, February 22, 1687-88. He resided in Upper Dublin Township, and in 1718 was an overseer of Horsham Meeting. He predeceased his father by about five years."4
  • Note: Deed: By indenture dated August 1 1711 and recorded in the county of Philadelphia (Book E7 page 117) John Lukens, in consideration of love and affection and 15 pounds, conveyed to William Lukens a 200 acre tract in Philadelphia county. The tract was part of a 505 acre tract conveyed 10 Jan 1709 to John Lukens by Sam Carpenter recorded in Philadelphia deed Book E7 Vol 8 pg 7.
    Land description: In layman's terms the tract was roughly square, 3003 feet by 2898 feet, with corners to the north, south, east and west, bordered by the lands of Sam Carpenter to the north west and north east, and by Peter Davis' to the south east, and Joseph Fisher's to the south west.

    "Will of William Lucken, Upper Dublin, Co. Phila.
    To my eldest son William, one hundred acres in Horsham township, which I purchased of Joseph Hall.
    To my second son John, 5 shillings, having already done my part for him, he being married and settled.
    To my eldest dau. Mary, the value of £75 in horse kind, cattle kind, and household goods, and £25 currency, at the time of her marriage or 12 months after my decease; etc.
    To my second dau. Sarahe, also, £75 in the same manner, and £25 in cash, etc.
    Remainder of my estate, real and personal, namely, my messuage and 200 acres on which I now live in Upper Dublin, which I purchased of William Runels, with the stock, and all other estate, to the use of my wife and our five youngest children: Reinear, Mathew, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Joseph; to manage said plantation so as to get a livelihood and bring up smaller children. Should my wife remarry, she is to take remainder of personal estate as her dower, and my five children aforesaid shall take plantation, in equal shares; etc.
    Executors may rent the said plantation for benefit of my wife and children.
    Execrs.: my wife, and my sons William Lucken and John Lucken; who are also to be guardians of my youngest children.
    Dated 4-15-1739; pr. 26 February 1739.
