Notes

  • Immigration*: 1683; Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania
  • Note*: From the Roberts book: "The name of the wife of Rynear Tyson, of Germantown and Abington, has not been fully proven. That her Christian name was Margaret, appears from a deed of 1727...As to her surname, it appears most probable...that it was Streeper (Striepers), and that she was a sister to Jan and Willem Striepers [other immigrants from Krefeld]."

Roberts goes on to discuss the use of relationship terms in the 17th century, and reviews numerous letters from the Streeper family. He also concludes that, in modern use of the terms, Margaret was a sister-in-law of Thomas Kunders, rather than his sister, as frequently published. Roberts quotes numerous letters from 'The Streeper Papers, 1682-1772', MSS Division - Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

Others, e.g. Hull, have asserted that Tyson's wife was Mary or Maria. Hull on p. 221 says Teissen's wife was English, Maria, and on p. 406 that she was Margaret Kunders (?) or Streypers (?).
