  • Note: Robert's abstract of Thomas Walmsley's will:
    "Will of Thomas Walmsley, Byberry township, Phila. Co., yeoman.
    To my wife Mary, use of plantation where I dwell, while she remain my widow. Also horses, cows, sheep, swine, etc., for her support.
    To my son William, my messuage and plantation in Byberry, where I now dwell (part of which is now in possession of Silas Titus), at decease or marriage of my said wife. Also, my plantation in Middletown, Bucks county, containing 200 acres, purchased by me of Robert Carter. Also, all bonds, bills and book debts, he paying legacies as follows:-
    To my eldest dau. Elizabeth Walton, £50.
    To my dau. Agnes Walton, £50.
    To my dau. Phebe Carver, £50.
    To my two younger daus. Martha and Ester Walmsley, £150 each; also, all my land in Buckingham, late in possession of Edward Gardner, to be divided equally. Also, household goods.
    To my dau. Ester, my negro girl Hannah.
    To my dau. Mary Worthington, land in Byberry, now in possession of her husband, purchased by me of Joseph Hibbs, containing about 60 acres.
    To my dau. Abigail Comley, my messuage and plantation in Moreland, Co. Phila., purchased of John Brock, she paying £30 to my dau. Phebe Carver.
    To my sons-in-law John Worthington, Job Walton and Isaac Carver, each 5 shillings.
    To my son William Walmsley, all residue, real and personal.

    Thomas Walmsley resided in Byberry township, Philadelphia county, from 1703 on. He owned a significant amount of property there and in Middletown township, Bucks county.
    Martindale says "He was a farmer and dealer in horses, and was very successful in both...doing but little in the affairs of either Church or State."8,9,1
