Notes

  • Living*: 16 November 1709; Witnessed his daughter Mary's wedding.
  • Note*: Burlington Monthly Meeting: "Quakers to be excused from military service, 11th mo 1704 ... Mancefield: ... William Foster"2
  • Note: The heirs of Godfrey Hancock of Steetley, Burlington Co., deeded 100 acres "near grantor's other land in the same Co." to a William Foster of Burlington Co., 24 Jan 1688-9. There is no evidence that this is the same William Foster.3
  • Note: No will found for William or Mary Foster in NJA vol 23 & 30.
  • Note: William Foster's origins are unclear. Dornan suggests that William Foster's family may have been connected to the family of the Josiah Foster from Rhode Island, since George and Mary (Foster) Matlack named a son Josiah.4,5
