  • Note: John Mickle Whitall is the subject of his grand-daughter's book.

    He went to sea at age 16, eventually becoming a captain. In 1829 he entered the dry-goods business, and in 1838 glass manufacturing with his brother-in-law George Haverstick, joined in 1845 by his brother Franklin. (p. 167, 198)
