- Note*: "In 1668 he was graduated at Harvard College...On May 24, 1670, he succeeded...as pastor at Jamaica, L. I....After 1674 he preached for some time at Rye and Bedford, N. Y....He returned to Jamaica in 1676....It has been said that Rev. John Prudden was the first regular pastor of the first regularly organized Presbyterian Church in America...In 1689 he was chosen, by Jamica, Deputy to the Colonial Assembly of New York. [pastor at Newark 1692 to 1699.] "devoted himself to teaching. Many of his scholars became prominent."
